Inmarsat B Land/Marine Terminals
Voice/Fax/Data/64kbps Data
with Global Beam Coverage...
Outfitter Satellite has
land portable and tracking marine high speed data Inmarsat B terminals.
These terminals have excellent coverage between 70 degrees North
and 70 degrees South latitude without the coverage gaps
that occur for Mini-M and
M4 systems.
Inmarsat B vs. Inmarsat M4, Mini-M, and M
If large files need to be received or transmitted,
then high speed services such as
Inmarsat B or M4 are both
faster and more economical than Mini-M.
Another issue is
coverage.
The global beam coverage
provided by Inmarsat B and
Inmarsat M
is considerably better than
the spot beam coverage used by Inmarsat M4 and Mini-M.
This difference is especially important near the Artic and Antartic
circles and southern ocean regions.
Another important difference is price and size.
Inmarsat B equipment is less portable and much more
expensive than the corresponding high speed
Inmarsat M4 or low speed Mini-M equipment.
A complete land portable Inmarsat B system is typically about
50 lbs vs about 10 lbs for an Inmarsat M4 system.
Marine and GMDSS versions of Inmarsat B exist.
Marine versions of Inmarsat Mini-M are again much less expensive
and much smaller in size. No marine Inmarsat M4 equipment currently
exists.
Inmarsat B "global beam"
coverage is indicated by the oblate circles. The more limited
Inmarsat M4 "spot beam"
(e.g. World Communicator)
coverage is indicated by the dark blue shaded regions on the map below.
Typical Applications for Inmarsat-B: involve a requirement
for high speed 64 kbps data transmission from remote or marine locations
where land lines are not available or are unreliable.
Typical applications of Inmarsat-B include transmitting
geophysical data, live 2-way H.320 videoconferencing images,
store-and-forward video or still-image transmissions,
multiple simultaneous voice, data and fax circuits,
or broadcast quality audio.
The HSD terminal weighs
22 kgs. Ruggedized constructions provides shock and weather
resistance. In field conditions, setup can be achieved in
about 5 minutes. The 60 cm x 60 cm antenna can be
remoted up to 90 m from the terminal for convenient
use from within buildings. A dynamic AC/DC power supply
lets you use 11-34 V DC or 100-120 AC or 200-240 AC.
